READERS with small businesses run under the auto-entrepreneur
regime have told us how they have been receiving bills for the business tax CFE
- these should not be paid.
As we report in the December edition of Connexion, people on this
simple business system, launched in 2009, are exempt again from the cotisation
foncière des entreprises (CFE) this year. This is the new tax that has replaced
the taxe professionnelle and negotiations are continuing as to whether
auto-entrepreneurs should pay it. More on this story...

A very charming traditional catalan L shaped cottage enjoying lovely views of the hills from both sides of the house.
The garage is on street level, next to it is a door which leads up covered steps onto a large sunny garden terrace above the garage, fencing and hedging give complete privacy whilst still allowing views of Mt Canigou and the Fontfrede . There is a wooden table and bench- seat to enjoy winter sunshine. Outside toilet access from the terrace.
The front door is accessed from this terrace, leading into a cosy open plan lounge/dining room with TV point and phone line. French doors on the other side of the lounge lead to a quaint courtyard beyond, with a beautiful view of the hills and total privacy.
Good size kitchen with breakfast table, large fridge, gas oven, microwave above it. Double sink, electric hob. It is a delightfully bright kitchen and has windows either side of the room and a glass door leading onto the same courtyard.
Half the courtyard is paved and the other half is raised and currently covered with river stones for ease of maintenance but could be used to grow flowers or vegetables if wished. Round the corner of the building and out of sight is the sunny laundry drying area.
Both the front terrace and back courtyard are ideal for bbqs.

Buying property in France
Important changes to inheritance laws - find out moreThe European parliament has passed a regulation which allows expats in France to dictate in a will that they want the law of the state of their nationality to apply to their estate and not French inheritance law. This, in effect, means Britons in particular can leave their estate to whoever they wish and not be bound by strict inheritance rules as at present. It is expected to be operational from 2015.
